The ship rocked back and forth like a mother rocking her baby. The waves smelled as if I was bathing in salt but felt like ice. My husband, me, and my 1 year old daughter are going to the New World. We are aboard the Susan Constant. I am scared for I am nursing the children and many are sick. There is barely any food left and everyone is starving. I am only going to the new world because of my religion, though I wish I had never left England. For it is the will of God that is sending me away.
Finally we are on the land of the new world. I am still not used to the unmoving ground. It sounds like we were all happy to get on the island but we only got worse. We had to plant crops, build a colony, and send word back to England before we all die. We are not happy but the new world is beautiful. The ground is like tiny little pebbles dancing under your feet. We venture deeper into the new world. As we go, the land that was once beautiful is now a swamp and full mosquitoes. After a week of hard work I get worrisome. All the children are healthy except for my one daughter. She has a disease carried by a mosquito. Almost half our village is sick or dead I am afraid she will not survive the winter. It is mid January and we are freezing. My daughter is in the hands of God now, otherwise things are the same as always. Even worse though are the natives. They are mean and they look hideous.
Finally things are looking up. The natives are being nice because John Rolfe married Pocahontas. The crops are growing and my daughter just celebrated her birthday. I think we may survive this year. I think we shall start a new life. I think we truly have found a new home in the new world.

This boat is really cramped. The other day my brother got sick and I was on my own. I still don’t believe that I left england and stowed away on this ship. The only thing driving me on is freedom to practice my own Religion. When I get to jamestown hopefully they won’t get mad because i didn’t come earlier.

One day I was out patrolling the with my brother when an indian popped out of nowhere and poked us with his/her stone spear. Luckily I keep a small dagger at hand. One showing of my blade and he ran for the hills. He was running so fast! As I was going home I saw something that caught my eye. It was smoke! I hurried home and there was my house. I quickly ran into my house investigated.
Hello, i’m Chris Inglehoffer and I am very excited about the journey ahead, but I am also cautious about it. My brother here is James Inglehoffer. Keep in mind that this is a journal from my time, so don’t be alarmed if you, the reader in future times maybe don’t know who I am or who my brother is. Right now my house in the settlement Jamestown and there is many powhattan Indians. I think this settlement is really going along.

Today is my birthday! Oh yeah! Today I will be turning 27 and I am so excited about it!
Today is going to be fantastic and I am going to go on another nature hike for about 7 hours. I will head out in the morning with my brother, James who is not so keen on going on a nature hike for 7 hours, but he said, “ It’s my brother’s birthday so i'll do it.”
On the hike everything was peaceful and no one was there. It was kinda creepy with almost nothing that disturbed us. Everything was giving off good vibes except the fact that we just passed a tree with a carving that said “CROATOAN”. Then, James said, “ We need to get the heck out of here!”
And I said, “Why?!” He said, “ I’ve heard of an english colony that was named “roanoke island” that had that same carving in a tree and that colony disappeared!” I immediately ran out of the forest with James right behind me because James usually knows all about other colonies and what’s going on with them. He’s the brain and I am the brawn. One of the best perks of being the brawn-e one is that I can beat him in a race. Oh yeah, i’m running for my life from an evil forest with James pretty far behind me. Probably should slow down a little bit. James said, “ Phew you almost lost me there.” “let’s go home” I said “It's been a long day.” we both headed home panting from the run.

When we got home for a few days, we went out to the town hall and attended a banquet for the new year. Nothing was out of the ordinary at the town hall. Then, we went home because it was nearly eleven o'clock. When we did this, we just chilled out for a while. We went to bed at twelve o’clock after we had the night of our lives. I had a dream that I was in the forest again, fog was all around me. Then, a lady in a black cloak approached me. I said, “ Who are you!?” as I pulled out my dagger she screeched an evil cantation and the dagger flew out of my hand and went into a tree. She screeched another and the dagger, by itself, made a carving that said “CROATOAN” and I immediately started running out of the forest for I feared my life was about to end. The lady screeched another cantation and I froze without budging.
She grabbed my dagger and scratched my hand and I woke up in the morning.

Today is the day James turns 29 and he is planning on cooking a huge dinner tonight. After our little run in with the forest James doesn’t even want to go out of the settlement’s walls. He’s right. We then went out for a walk among the settlement walls. When I went to bed and looked at my hand it was terrifying. The scratch from my dream was there, on my hand, bleeding. I immediately went downstairs to grab a cloth to wrap my hand in when I saw my dog barking I said, “Jen, shut up.”

The next morning I saw that my cloth was covered in blood and I said, “Oh my god!!! I must be bleeding out!!!”
I went to get the medical kit and slowly but surely, gasping pain by gasping pain, stitched my cut back together. When I did this it was the most painful thing I have ever done. It was like having a shark eat at my hand until it was done.

English Single Adult, Christian
Woo We made it! We made it! Oh excuse me I just got off a boat! I am a English Single male Adult and we have been traveling to the Americas. We have been traveling from England and oh it feels amazing to be on new land and off that terrifying boat. We are in the year of 1607 and I have came to the Americas to be in a settlement at Jamestown. I cannot wait to find riches and sell products for profit for England and me.
Our Colony is located in Jamestown and Jamestown where I live is close to the James River which is named after King James 1. I have also come here to live in a better place I hope. Then things did not go the best but after while better things came to Jamestown. People that get money and make a profit for shares in the Virginia Company, The company got us three ships to take settlers to Jamestown. We the Settlers formed a colony at Jamestown, Lumber,Tobacco and, other things were exported to England. After products were sold, and investors shared profits that we improved in Jamestown.

Brenae, Jamestown Slave
I'm a slave in Jamestown. The people who brought me and some others we were captured by Dutch. Then some days later we were recaptured by the English colony.
While I was on the ship I felt sad, but Scared at the same time I'm SAD. When I first saw land I wondered what are we doing here. Until when I started to get the routine they was just using us just for working, and not paying me.
I survived my first summer at Jamestown
it was, so hot we still had to get up at 2:00 in the MORNING have to get to work. When I got to work I greeted everyone, and start to wash my dishes in the morning, and in the afternoon, but sometimes I work until the morning. All I want is freedom and do the things I want to do myself. But some changes are done know for example I don’t have, so many jobs now.I was so hungy. The settlers could not find enough food. They had no skills to grow crops. I was so hungry that I was willing to get snakes and rats.
John Smith bought more and more supplies he was so helpful even knowing that I was starving. He brought more people who taught us new skills.
But I hope I get out of here somehow. All I want is freedom, but I can’t get that.

My name is Nicholas and I am on the Discovery, which is a ship sailing to the New World. There are three ships sailing on Atlantic Ocean. The names of the ships are the Discovery, Susan Constant, and the Godspeed. The ships are very crowded. King James of England gives the Virginia Company permission to make a colonie. They spent three years coming up with their plan, but all they can get are three ships.
I have three brothers and one sister. Alexander, Daniel, Mark, and Elizabeth. Yet mother and father favor me, their oldest son. Mother burst into the room and she was practically dancing around the room. I have not seen her so happy since before Alexander was born.
She walked up to me opened her mouth to speak, but before she could say anything a loud thud shook the Discovery.
Men were yelling but sounded relieved. My mother said in a relieved tone “We have reached land at last. I said, "What time is it?"
“That, I don’t know, " then she beckoned me to pack my stuff and come on the decks. What is in my chest are shoes, a sheet, dice, two shirts, one pair of Trousers, and a teething stick. I know my mom has a Crucifix, a Book Clasp, Memento Mori Ring, clothing, and a Goffering Iron. Mother is very religious. Father keels his trunk locked so I don’t know what’s in it.
We set up a fort shaped like a triangle in a few days. After that we suffered a hard winter that we call the Starving Time.I asked father “ Why are we here?” Father said “Tis, to wealth and power.” I asked mother the same question but she said “That, is for religious reasons” The pesky
Redskins kill people that venture outside the walls of the settlement. I made the mistake of going outside the walls. My father is a gunsmith(where he repairs and make guns.) I test out guns while he makes them. Father thinks that it should be illegal to shoot inside
the walls so I have to go inside the forest. I set up a target and open fired. Perfect test, it hit the target perfectly! Then arrows shot out of the trees. I ran.
Most importantly I survived. Alexander and Elizabeth were relieved but, Daniel and Mark kept telling me how stupid I was. Alexander said “ Are you ok? I wouldn't be if I ran from the naturals.” I had to test out more guns but, I shot from just outside the walls. I’ll never go in the forest again. I still hate those pesky mosquitoes. Next thing you know everybody will have a disease. There's also way too much tobacco around this place.
Sincerely,
Nicolas Jacob Tremain

My life in the Americas by Matthew.
When I came home from school today my parents were packing up I asked,“Mom where are we going?”
My mom said, “We are leaving England and going to a new fort called Jamestown. I did not want to go but she said I had no choice if I wanted to go or not. When I got on the ship I was immediately uncomfortable. The waves would not stop and I barely had any sleep.
Finally, we got to America. When Jamestown was settled 100 men were sent into Jamestown to build it. After a long wait we finally went into Jamestown. When we got in it was raggedy and awful and rats roamed the fort.
I asked my mom, “Why did we move again because this is not cool?” My mom said that we moved here because of I had no choice and because of tobacco, but she said I can't have any. Then I said, “NO FAIR!!!!”
My mom said, “You can't have any because we are going to sell it for more than it is worth.” Then it was sold for 30 dollars having a profit of 15 dollars because she bought it for 15 dollars.
The next day My father came home with unusual person.
I asked my dad, “Dad who is this?”
My dad said, “We own a slave know and it's a African.” I felt bad for the African, so that night I let the African go. In the morning, my mom and dad were looking for the African slave.
I said, “He probably got out.” I wasn’t lying and I wasn’t telling the truth also, so it can’t be that bad right. The next morning my dad and I went into the woods to get firewood for winter which is right around the corner. Then we saw a deer, and then I shot my very first animal.
It is winter now and I am freezing to death. I never loved winter it is just plain out torture. Winter is finally over now and it's spring, spring is so amazing and warm and so beautiful, but in the summer it is horrible the water is swampy and unfit to drink and there are a lot of people dying. Then everyone ran out of food and we had to eat rats and leather boots. We called it the Starving Times. That is my horrible life in the Americas blog.

Good day to you.
Jamestown Young Adult, Kameron
1606 I am from jamestowne and I’m Henry aged 15. I left from England to come to the Americas because I want to start a new life and to get land. I helped build the walls around jamestown. We might go steal some more food from the indians again. We are starving so there is no choice.
1609-1610 Jamestown is running low on money. It is almost winter the natives stopped sharing because of the drought this is going to be a long winter...
1610 That was a hard winter we barely made it a lot of us died but more colonist came with more food and supplies one of the colonist was named John Rolfe.
1612 He introduced a new plant , tobacco and this kind of tobacco grew great in Virginia when we made our first trade of the tobacco our money grew soon tobacco was one of the biggest cash crop in Virginia.
1614 There was conflict between Jamestown and the Powhatans Luckily that changed too.
1619 John Rolfe married Pocahontas. The peace would maybe last for a while but I don’t know . We still worried about the natives because sometimes they try to ambush us. Now that I am a landowner because of the Virginia Company I can be in the government . I can make laws and decisions . I met John Rolfe too so I could bring things to him to trade thim with natives for some fur .

Please tell me I am not getting on this bucket of rags of a boat. It smells like wet dog up in here. My name is Cynthia Powell.
There is a sickness going around my husband is ill.
He died on board. I am a english single mom and I live and work in jamestown with my two children.
My people are heavily involved in tobacco trading. Tobacco are one of our greatest most fabulous cash crops ever. We sell are cash crops for more money and we don’t use any of it.
The spaniards are some of the craziest people I know about.
I left my homeland to come to the Americas because, I heard that they had a great church in America. I am going to see what this new church is like for my children and I.
This church is fabulous. It’s called New America Christian Church. These people are so nice to me and my children. So I wrote a note to my family to visit down here.
Dear Mother & Father I want to know if you wanted to come to America to see the kids and I. If you do you're going to see what a
Great Country it is to live in then you might
Move over here by me. It’s your mind you pick.
The Indians are one of the craziest people. They fuss over nothing. You could be their favorite person if you tell them something they do not want tohear they will do something crazy to you. They will get their spear and kill you.
The Spanish rivalry was a competition in the 16th century between the French, English and the Netherland were competing with Spain.

The Olivia Clarke Chronicles, Jamestown Parent, Taylor
Dec 18, 1607
“Olivia. I don’t want you to be sad. I’ll come back if I can”. Those were the last words I heard from my husband, Thomas. He was going to leave to go on a permanent settlement in North America. Oh, If only my daughter, Elizabeth and I could go with him. Instead, it’s only for one hundred men, and he is one of them. I shall never see him again.
Dec 27, 1607
I got up this morning, and started to make breakfast. Elizabeth and I heard that the men have found land yet. Just nothing. It really isn’t easy to be English nowadays. The men are supposed to be finding riches, but from what we’ve heard, all they’ve found is dirt. Little do we know if there are diseases in that dirt. I just hope they are okay.
Jan 29, 1608
Excellent! The men have found gold and silver! We here that they are worth more than a lone stack of maravedis! My husband and I are going to be so rich, we can’t be able to count our money. I can just imagine all of the food, pearls, gowns, money. Oh, how lucky we are to be here on Earth, with this great amount of luck! What could be next? No one knows… yet.
Feb 5, 1608
I have indeed been completely wrong about our situation here. Apparently, the men haven’t found food for a long time. Some of them are still living, but we here that about a third of them are dead I haven’t heard word about Thomas, but Elizabeth and I pray that he is safe and sound, still living, somewhere in North America. Thomas, if you ever get a chance to read this, I am so worried about you. If you do die, Elizabeth and I know, for all we are worth, that you will go to heaven with God. He will protect you. I’m sure of it.
Feb 14, 1608
In a few days, we here that a new man is coming to meet us, and tell us what he will do for us. Elizabeth has heard of him often, and says he “brings people stories to here about himself, along with survival tools and tricks”. I have seen that he is a man by the name of John Smith. Rumor has it, he was friends with a Native American princess, Pocahontas. She saved him from being killed. Not very ladylike, but a brave girl.
I hope he knows about the men in North America. My husband being safe is extremely important to me. Well, at least we’ll have more company in Jamestown. Very lonely here, nowadays.

It is the day that we are going to meet John Smith. I am quite nervous, but he could bring miracles to us. A miracle that could save all of our lives from danger. As I write, I see a gigantic horse, striving itself to get to know the people in Jamestown. Yes, finally I see a man with reddish-brown-blonde hair, a beard that looks the same. He has a bag full of objects I don’t know of, and a bloody lot of women and children. “
Good day, people of Jamestown,” he began. “I am John Smith. I have brought food, supplies, and company-lots of company”. John pointed to a group of women and children, whom looked scared and confused. “Miss,” he said to me. “ What is your name? Your daughter’s name? Tell me.” I stood up proudly. “My name is Olivia Clarke. This is my daughter, Elizabeth. My husband is somewhere, probably dead in North America.” Everyone gasped. John Smith nodded, and sent us off to go sleep, we would need it.

I apologise for the late update. I’ve been helping children, and planting crops for four years straight, I completely forgot about my diary. Anyways, a lot has happened over the years, to be honest. As fast as how a cat has their reflexes. We have a new man. Do not worry-John Smith is still here, but he doesn’t put us to work as much. Honestly, such rubbish! As I was saying, there’s a new man. John Rolfe, he is, and has made a very awful cash crop-tobacco. Tastes raw and worst of all, Elizabeth wanted to try it! Is he out of his mind? Who gives a child a drug that can bloody kill them!
Besides that, the other news is even worse. Do you remember my husband, Thomas Clarke? He was one of the men that died of hunger. Yes, you read that write. Thomas is dead

Jamestown Doctor, Wiley
Man I can’t wait to leave England! So I can go into a guild of doctors in Jamestown because it is unhealthy in Jamestown . So I will travel to Jamestown. Second I want to be able to stop infections like smallpox. This is going to be an adventure I will never forget!
So now I’m on a boat now and I am praying that we don’t fall off the world. The next day I went fishing on the boat. I catch a lot fish, but I mostly wanted to catch a mermaid just thinking how much money I would get for it. Two months later, I was almost to Jamestown, but then one day our boat sank right by Jamestown so we took a lifeboat to land. Once we got there I saw Natives and they took my silver whistle. I was angry. I took out my sword, but I lost them so I made a tent made from bear skin. The next day I went to find my whistle, but I did not find it. A few hours later I was about to give up, but then I saw my whistle. I went to get it ,but then I fell into a trap. I was so frighted and wondered who set it up. Then I saw the bushes move and then the Natives came out. The natives spoke english so I understood them. One Native asked me why I was there so I said, “my boat crashed.” After they let me stay with them until my boat was fixed. The next few months they gave me lots of materials and I was very thankful. After a few more months the boat was almost ready, so I began packing up to leave. A few weeks later ,it was time to leave. The next day I left the island and started on my journey for Jamestown. I can’t wait to see my family and to become a doctor. I really didn’t want to leave my new family, the natives. I had to leave because I didn’t want to disappoint my family. So I have to do what I must do. I began telling all the Natives goodbye and then the chief gave me a dreamcatcher to catch bad dreams and thoughts and only allow good dreams and thoughts . I told the chief thank you. I left on my journey to Jamestown to become a doctor!
10 years later I am a popular doctor that stop smallpox. Also I help make tobacco and skills to farm in Jamestown. So as you can see I really did complete a lot of things in my life and I really hope my life inspired other people to do something like this. Then after a few years later I was old with and skinny. So I stayed in a home for olders so then when I die I will be in the retirement place. A few weeks later big fans of my work came to see one last time one gave a watch then Thomas Edison put has new light bulb invention in my room I was so honored. Few days later natives really came all this way to see me. Then they gave me there seaweed and also cooked fish.
